The Hughes Building
Client: Santa Barbara Bank & Trust
Architect: Cearnal Architects, Inc.
Location: Santa Barbara, California
In order to begin construction on this 8,600 square foot commercial
retail building, Melchiori Construction Company demolished the existing,
un-reinforced masonry structure. With the existing building attached
to the adjacent buildings in areas, careful planning and procedures
were successfully used as a precaution. The new masonry and steel
moment frame building was then erected with two inches clearance
between its neighbors. With the only access to this project being
a common delivery alley, Melchiori Construction Company had to schedule
each material delivery with the downtown merchants and the city
parking staff. The project was completed in June of 1999 and is
currently one of the nationwide Z Gallery retail stores.
